Hotel Susantha Garden

The free WiFi was marvelous, much better than at our hotel. We’ve stopped by a few times for drinks and once in the evening for pizza. Since we’re in Sri Lanka, I have to say the pizza was very good. It may be a little expensive, but this isn’t Italy. If you want cheap food, go for local dishes. ;-)

We spent at least two hours eating, with lots of interruptions. Even simple follow-ups for spoons, sauces, plates or water took ages. The restaurant wasn’t very full when we arrived around 8:00 PM on Sunday, but just two people were handling orders, bringing food and bills. The food was still good, especially the Veg Grilled Pizza and Margaritas. The Veg Soups and Egg Rice were fine too, but the service was damn slow.

The only real downside was the WiFi. It didn’t work properly, and when it connected, it was mostly only available in the restaurant, sometimes by the pool. Otherwise, the place is quiet and relaxing at night, with a great location near the beach, just across the railway. Breakfast was fine and the staff were nice. I could definitely stay here again.

The pool and sunbeds were entirely in the shade, and the pool towels they gave us were very old and smelled awful. The rooms were tiny, with old furniture, and not cleaned well. Food at the restaurant was very average, and the wine we had, at 650rs a glass, was stale. I still can’t believe they charge so much for such a disgusting old hotel.
