Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo

The place looked worn and run down, and even the tablecloth seemed old. We also had to deal with a terrible toilet smell. This was our second anniversary dinner here, but it felt nothing like our first visit six years ago: the service, atmosphere, and food had all changed for the worse. I’d mentioned the anniversary when booking, yet they didn’t acknowledge it or do anything to make it feel special, not even a simple wish like you’d get at Cinnamon or Hilton. I had to ask twice for water, which tasted like tap water. My noodles were far too greasy, the Crémbrulé wasn’t cold enough, and the mocktail tasted strange, almost as if the watermelon was rotten. The food didn’t feel up to the standard of a five-star restaurant. A very disappointing evening. We won’t come back or recommend it.

We started our first trip to Sri Lanka at Tintagel, and loved it. The staff were kind, friendly, and always happy to help or offer suggestions, which made the stay wonderful. We had both breakfast and lunch there, and the food was incredible, 10/10. The pool and bar are beautiful too. We’ll be back, and I can’t recommend it enough!

I was in Colombo on my own for work, and everyone made me feel welcome and looked after. Mr Samen, the head of House keeping, deserves special credit for excellent service. The restaurant was outstanding, and my colonial-style room had everything I needed. This is a beautiful boutique hotel, and I really hope I can return one day.

The location worked really well for us. Most of the places we wanted to see were an easy walk away or just a quick drive, and Tintagel made a quiet, restful base for a couple in the city. We’d happily stay again. Our room was comfortable, and we quickly made the sunny balcony our favorite place for morning coffee. Every staff member was warm and attentive. Afzal was especially great and gave us helpful tips for exploring Colombo. On our last night, the hotel surprised us with a little cake for our honeymoon, a thoughtful touch.
