Shalimar Hotel

The room was clean and a great value. My son was asleep when I needed the toilet, so the staff gave me a key to an unused room. Thanks, Chandra! They also kept our luggage after checkout for a while. Stanley was really helpful and friendly too.

The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The location worked well for getting around: Maradana Railway Station is a two-minute walk away, while Fort Railway Station, Pettah bus station, and Pettah market are about a 20-minute walk. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was excellent 👌 and the room was clean and huge, though the bed and pillows were a little too hard. Stanley, the front counter manager, was amazing and helped us with locations and training enquiries for our onward journey. Chandra from the restaurant was so pleasant, polite, and friendly, always with a big smile. His service was 10+, and his work ethic was amazing. Auith Kumar at the front counter was also very helpful getting my internet/WiFi connection sorted. I was pleased he was there.

The hotel has its own restaurant on the ground floor, and the man at reception is nice and speaks English. The room boys only understand Tamil, though, and since the intercom didn't work, I had to call reception as an outside call. The place looks old and faces the main road in Panchikawattha, but public transport is easy to reach. Rooms are compact, though clean and tidy. An AC room for two cost 7,500 LKR and came with just pillows, soap, and a towel. Keep the doors and windows shut, even for a few seconds, and hundreds of mosquitoes can get in.
