Sundaras Resort & Spa

I slept incredibly well in the super comfy bed, and the pool was just the right temperature. The welcome from Siddu was so warm, and after 24 hours of travel I really appreciated being allowed to check in early for free. Breakfast was outstanding, with fruit, coffee, juice and pastries from the bar, then an omelette and French toast. Dinner was fine, but do try the pineapple fritters with ice cream. The beer was ice cold too. Arjune, Tito and Ovidi were all lovely and welcoming. Thanks to the Sundaras team for such a wonderful little slice of paradise.

I stayed at Sundaras jungle resort from 31 May to 2 June 2026. The room was spacious and clean, the Wi-Fi was fast, and I loved the jungle feel, big pool and well-designed bar. We had dinner there with really good music, which I enjoyed a lot. My mom had hurt herself falling on the steps to Dambulla cave temple. Ms.Tharushi gave me bandages and medicine for her injuries, and I’m so grateful. Mr.Siddu looked after us at breakfast, and the other staff were kind and helpful too. The owner, I think, was super friendly and helped carry our luggage, with hotel staff coming to help as well. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 🙏🏼

Johan deserves a special mention. He was consistently friendly, professional and upbeat, looked after my friends and me, and always brought papadams with dip. The staff were lovely, the food and cocktails were delicious, and the Arrack passion cocktail is a must. They also packed food for us when we had an early start. We stayed for three nights in early June and, aside from a few problems, had a positive visit. There was major construction right beside our room, so a room farther away would have been better. A light outside our door stayed on all night and made sleeping difficult. The pool also had lots of leaves and bugs, and wasn’t cleaned every day. The hotel is far from the city centre, though it’s near attractions including Dambulla Cave Temple and the golden Buddha statue.

The staff were very welcoming and did a lot to make us comfortable. Our room was by the pool and was good, though the rooms closer to the lobby looked nicer. There was a bit of confusion about the breakfast packs in the early morning, and they couldn’t be found. It might help to explain more clearly where and when to collect them.
