The room was filthy, with dust and cobwebs everywhere. The bathroom mirror was so dirty I could barely see my reflection, and the window curtain wasn't long enough to help much. Finding the place was already a struggle: it's on a small, unlit street with no sign showing its name. When we finally got there at 7pm, a Colombian girl with limited English asked us to wait while she cleaned the room. Whatever she meant by cleaning, it clearly hadn't made it clean. One of the worst experiences ever. Avoid this place.

The cargo-pallet idea gives this place a different, eco-friendly feel, with the beds and a lot of the furniture made from pallets. The rooms are large and comfortable, and you can choose one with a private bathroom or a shared one. There's also a common living room, a well-equipped kitchen and a fridge, plus WiFi. It's easy to get to Galle Road and Mount Lavinia beach. Scooters and bicycles are available to rent. Popular with travellers, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

A comfortable spot for backpackers. Pallet House's owner rents out the first floor, while the owner of the whole building lives downstairs. He's a cheerful older man who always greets you with a smile. Thanks to sattu and kalhara for being such welcoming hosts.
