Sinharaja Forest was the reason we came to Deniyaya, and Gishan turned out to be just the kind of guide we hoped for: passionate about nature, easy to talk to, and remarkably good at spotting wildlife. After a 45-minute tuk-tuk ride to the Kurulugala entrance, we spent about seven hours in the forest and saw all sorts of plants and animals. We’re both biologists, and really appreciated how much he knew. The homestay itself was just as lovely. Gishan proudly showed us the garden, full of interesting plants and animals, and the whole family made us feel welcome. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the homemade breakfasts and dinners were tasty and generous. The setting is scenic, about a 20-minute walk from Deniyaya bus station. We had a beautiful two days and would gladly come back.

We learned a lot about the rainforest on the jungle tour and got to see some really cool animals and places. The family were lovely and helpful, and the food was really tasty. A great place to stay!

The breakfast was as good as any I've had in Sri Lanka. I had a wonderful stay, and Jeffnu (spelling?) and his family were so hospitable. He knows the rainforest well and arranged a great guide for us!

There were colorful birds close to the veranda, and the river view was lovely. The rooms are very simple, but there’s a hot shower. The owner showed us lots of wildlife and plants, including snakes, a scorpion, big spiders, a large squirrel, and a chameleon. Some of the plants were very rare. Cover your legs when you go into the rainforest, the vampires there are eager to suck your blood.

The owner was friendly and arranged a rainforest guide for me. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. My room was clean and had everything I needed. A really good place to stay.
