Ella Farmer Village

We had a wholesome, lovely stay. The family was unbelievably kind and helpful, and breakfast was delicious, especially with the view. Their son was always happy to drive us back and forth in the tuk-tuk. Great value for money, and we'd come back :))

Getting a tuk-tuk was easy, and the son charged a reasonable price. He handled the dirt road pretty quickly, too. The family were helpful, the rooms were clean, and breakfast was delicious. On a tropical island you can't avoid every little critter, of course. And for the first time in four weeks, the WiFi actually worked like they said it would. A really great homestay.

The room was clean, and that hammock looking out over the view was something else. I loved the food too, fresh and authentic, better than most restaurants I tried. The host has a great personality, good stories, and is easy to talk to; the rest of the family are lovely as well. It’s so peaceful here, with beautiful scenery. They even let me join in with some farm work, which was fun and a refreshing change from tourist activities. My favorite place so far on this trip. Highly recommend.

We booked two rooms for six nights for our family of five, but on arrival I saw that the hosts had changed my Booking reservation to one night. We all understood that we were meant to stay six nights, so the situation felt strange. We had asked in advance for adjoining rooms and were told that would be fine, but the rooms were on different floors. They apparently can't provide adjoining rooms, which doesn't work well for a family with three children. The Booking.com room details listed a washing machine and coffee machine. When I asked to use the washer, the owner said there wasn't one and offered paid laundry instead. There was no coffee machine either, just a kettle in the shared kitchen. The first dinner was very tasty, but the next meal arrived completely cold and covered in ants. We showed it to her and she did what she could, but we were still charged the full price. On rainy days we had to turn on the water heater. In the double room the sink and shower pressure was extremely weak, and we never got hot water. In the family room with two double beds, the flow was more reasonable. The shower was hot for the first two days, then only barely lukewarm for the rest of our stay, even though I had asked them to switch on the heater ahead of time. A lukewarm shower on a cold, rainy evening was really unpleasant. There were also several power cuts in the evenings and at night. The place has no backup lighting or anything, so it was completely dark for hours.
