Ella Village Inn

For 4000r including breakfast, we stayed two nights in a large, clean room with a fan, a four-poster bed and mosquito net, plus a balcony. There’s no need for AC in the hills. The place combines a bar, rotti hut, and guesthouse, and the downtown rotti hut is linked to it. You can choose your breakfast. We’d recommend the French toast with sausage: it has cinnamon and nutmeg in the mix, with marmalade on top, and it’s delicious. The only reason I’m not giving five stars is that the view isn’t of the hills, though that did get us out of the room.

You’re right on Ella’s main street, close to cafés and restaurants, and the price is good. The rooms are clean and the toilet was fine. The drinks here are colder than at other places we visited in Sri Lanka. Even if you’re not staying overnight, get a beer!

This is a western-style restaurant with reasonable prices. The local food was OK, but the burger, chips, and juices were poor. They serve Carlsberg and Corona as well as Lion beer. One waiter was nice, while the other was unpleasant. They do accept credit cards. There’s WiFi, although it barely worked while we were there.

The food was all very tasty, with both traditional and western options, and the service was polite and attentive. We left our takeaway behind, and the waiter actually ran after us down the street to return it. Awesome restaurant.
