Lake Resort Bolgoda

We came as a group of 19, and the setting by Bolgoda Lake was wonderfully relaxing. We really enjoyed the natural surroundings and ambience. The bites and appetizers we ordered were excellent. Lunch was less satisfying. The menu we received beforehand let us choose from different dishes, but later we were told the group size meant lunch would be a buffet. The buffet selection was very limited, which was disappointing compared with what we had been offered. Some of the property's rules also felt restrictive and unreasonable at times, and that led to an exchange of words. The public spaces and washrooms could be cleaner. Even with those issues, we had a good experience, and the location is a real highlight.

The food was good, nicely prepared, and had a variety we enjoyed. The staff stayed friendly and supportive despite how busy the resort was, and their warm manner helped make the stay pleasant. We spent a night at Lake Resort Bolgoda in a private, cozy cabana. The property was well kept, with lush lakeside surroundings and a peaceful feel. A few standard room amenities were missing when we arrived. Since it was the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season and a very busy time for local hospitality, I suspect the oversight may have been due to the pressure on staff. It was a good visit overall. The tranquil view and caring team make it a solid option, though consistency in room preparation during peak periods could improve.

The route in is difficult, especially the last 1 1/2 km, and quite rough. I wanted to mention that as a constructive point. Three of us spent four days, or three nights, at Lake Resort Bolgoda last week. The lakeside setting blends beautifully with nature, and the cabanas were spacious and had facilities that some nature resorts don't offer. We chose the resort after Ms Sabreena's friendly customer relations. The staff were prompt and welcoming, led by Mr Seelan, who made us feel at home. The head chef catered the food to our choices, and it was fine. I'm a dual citizen of Sri Lanka and the U.K., and have lived in London for 40 years. The rooms are spacious and relaxing, with distinctive architecture that gives them a homely feel. The pool is good when it isn't crowded, and spending the evening by the lake is especially relaxing. I went for a day out with my wife last January. The narrow approach road was difficult, and overgrown plants along it scratched my car. As someone who loves cars, that was upsetting and uncomfortable. If your vehicle has low ground clearance, think twice. The staff didn't seem as professional or friendly as they had when I visited two years earlier. Also, only three of the meals we'd selected from the à la carte menu were available.
