Oak Ray Beach

The buffet is small, but I’d recommend it if you’re after something special. The hotel’s brand has changed and it’s no longer oak ray, but it’s still a great place. We had a spacious presidential suite with an indoor pool, and the staff made us feel like royalty. The chef also managed to accommodate our special requests. The rooms are great, especially for couples.

The hotel’s cosy setting and long pool made for a lovely family break, and there’s a good beach too. Our ocean view room was spacious and nicely arranged, with a huge bathroom and bathtub. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was really tasty, with lots of fresh local produce. It exceeded what we expected, and I’d recommend it for a family vacation.

The food itself was good, and room service arrived with a nice presentation and quantity, but the dinner buffet selection was poor. We also noticed a lot of maintenance that needed attention, including pool towels that should be changed. When guests are there, the pool needs an attentive attendant. Staff could switch off when the hotel has zero occupancy, but all staff should remember guests help pay their salary. Our first visit was good, though this time we saw deterioration in several areas. Some staff were proactive, pleasant and hospitable, while others seemed moody and indifferent.

The food was a highlight, from the welcome drink to a very good buffet lunch and evening coffee with a snack. There was a nice mix of local dishes, and the selections were very good. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a stunning ocean view. The pool was spotless and nicely designed, different from those at other hotels. We had a happy day out with friends, thanks to the friendly, attentive service and housekeeping. Many thanks to Mr. Withana, the management and staff. We really enjoyed it and will be back soon.
