Villa Ocean View

The location is the one good thing here. The rooms were unhygienic, and the towels and sheets were old and dusty. Room service didn't bring what we ordered, and the food was bad. The restaurant's standard was very poor. I know this isn't a five-star hotel, but I still expect some basic standard when eating and staying somewhere. I've never left a negative review before, but this place used to be good and now seems badly managed. If you don't want your mood spoiled, I'd suggest staying away.

The wedding hall's air conditioning wasn't working, and the supervisor's excuse was that someone had left the door open and they hadn't noticed until morning. The food wasn't any better. The toilet near reception hadn't been cleaned and had no toilet paper, and the display showed the wedding couple's name incorrectly. Most of the staff were helpful, but the people in higher positions were not. This was the worst hotel I've attended for a wedding. Anyone planning to get married should avoid it.

The pool area was packed with people from company day outings, loud music, and garbage. It was close to the restaurant, and management didn't seem to do anything about the disturbance. I even saw someone throw up in the pool, and there was what looked like a fight among the drunk guests. Our rooms were spacious and the furniture was arranged well, but one smelled awful, like someone had had sex on the floor and wiped it up. There were cockroaches and geckos in one colleague's room, and two rooms had broken air conditioning. The elevator was out of order too, so some colleagues carried their bags up to the third floor. We were on the ground floor, luckily. At the entrance nobody helped with our luggage, and we unloaded it ourselves. We didn't get a welcome drink, though we later saw some in the bar. It was an artificial orange drink that I couldn't even take a sip of. Staff seemed friendly, but the service was far below what we expected. We arrived for lunch and saw stray dogs wandering around the hotel, including inside the restaurant. The food was a huge disappointment with little variety. The first day's lunch was vegetable fried rice, pumpkin curry, crab curry, chicken curry, and deviled Kang-Kung. The seafood smelled odd, which I wouldn't expect at a beach hotel in the south. There were only two or three salad and dessert options, and they didn't taste good. This was a one-night company trip. Don't go. Stay home and watch your favorite movie again rather than spend your vacation and money at a terrible hotel like this. Hotel management and the Sri Lanka tourist board should pay attention. It would be better to close the hotel than keep reviewing it.

The beach access is beautiful, and the staff are always ready to help with a smile, service on par with a five-star hotel. Rooms are comfortable enough for a budget trip to the coast. Food is harder to rate since there isn't much variety to choose from.
