Emerald Mirror Guest Ella

It's handy for the shops and restaurants, with one restaurant only about three minutes away, and there are great mountain views from the balcony and outside. The bed was fairly comfortable and the staff were super friendly. We could tell them what time we wanted breakfast each day, which was nice. That said, this is a basic hotel with just a few rooms near Ella's main road, and the climb up the hill each time could be tough for anyone who isn't fit. The rooms are very basic: no fridge, AC, TV or shower gel. There was no daily cleaning, and not enough power outlets or light switches by the bed. The shower pressure was low, though the staff tried to fix it.

We loved having a common living room to relax in, with a couch, tables, chairs and a kitchen. We stayed four nights, and the clean, comfortable place was close to town. The host couple were so sweet and friendly, and breakfast was amazing. It was nice staying with local Sri Lanka’s and supporting a small business. An amazing place in Ella, highly recommend it!

We loved this guesthouse so much that we extended our stay. The couple running it were friendly and made it feel like home, and breakfast was amazing. We could refill our bottles at the water dispenser, the shower was the best we had in Sri Lanka, and the walk into town was fine despite the steep hill. They also gave us a free ride to and from the train station. One evening they made us a delicious dinner at a very reasonable price, then took us on a day trip past the Lipton tea plantation to Diyaluma Falls for less than we'd have been able to negotiate in town. This was our favorite guesthouse in Sri Lanka. We hope to return one day and would definitely stay here again.

The owners were so lovely, the breakfast was great, and the rooms were in excellent shape. We've stayed in plenty of lovely places in Sri Lanka, but this was by far the most amazing guesthouse we've ever been to. If you want to feel at home while traveling, this is the place.
