Tunnel Gap Homestay

A lovely homestay. The owner was so friendly and a joy to spend time with. The rooms were clean and practical, and the cats and dogs were really cute. We did the cooking class with seven people and it was amazing.

The hosts were so friendly, the bed was super comfy, and we finally got a hot shower after nine days. The breakfast was unreal, you have to try it to believe it. We also did a cooking class and highly recommend it. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Thanks, momma ❤️❤️ Chrissie and katie, UK

The rooms are old, rundown, dark, damp, and not very clean, as other reviews have said, but that wasn’t my main problem. I’ve stayed in plenty of budget homestays. What bothered me was the customer service. I had booked four nights. On day two, the owner begged me to move to her friend’s homestay so she could rent out my room again. It felt like a bait and switch. The replacement was on a loud, busy intersection, with my room about five feet from the road. Some windows had no glass or wouldn’t close, so it felt like tuk tuks were right in the room. I told the Tunnel Gap owner as soon as I saw it that I wasn’t happy with the switch. She said, “too bad. That's all I can do for you.” My reservation, made months in advance, wasn’t honored. Then she charged me the original price even though the new homestay was clearly cheaper, which was easy to see on booking.com. She was extremely rude and unpleasant to deal with. There are hundreds of places in Ella, so stay somewhere else.

The laundry service was excellent, friendly, professional, and good value. My clothes were washed, pressed, and folded in less than a day. The owner was friendly, helpful, and honest too. I’d highly recommend it.
