The Winsome & Tree House

The food was the best we had in Sri Lanka! Thilan and his wife are lovely, and you can watch birds, squirrels, and monkeys from the terrace. It’s an awesome flat if you enjoy nature and a relaxed stay. Just so you know, Ella and the surrounding area are safe. The monsoon is over, with no more landslides or blocked roads. The train lines are damaged and will take a few months to get everything back in order, but aside from that, you can enjoy your trip as before.

The owners built the house themselves, and you can feel how much love went into it. They were friendly and helpful before and after my stay, always smiling and ready to answer questions or requests. The main street is crowded and noisy, but here it’s far enough away that all you hear are birds and nature, while still being close to the center. They offer tuk-tuk service, so getting around isn’t a worry, and they can arrange activities depending on how much time you have. Breakfast is generous, with a great mix of local and Western food. I couldn’t finish it. And oh my goodness, there’s something special on the menu: the curry was heavenly! I highly recommend this place, they deserve the best :)

My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights and loved the views, especially at sunrise. There’s plenty of wildlife around, and we even had monkeys right next to us. The rooms are cozy and rustic, and all the staff were amazing, friendly, and helpful.

Waking up to mountain views and birdsong was such a peaceful start to the day. The natural setting feels like a real retreat, and breakfast each morning was delicious. The treehouse room was cozy, clean, carefully designed, and incredibly comfortable. Our host was helpful and accommodating, always making sure we felt at home. I’d definitely recommend it for a quiet escape in nature.
