The Lady Hill Hotel

We had a great stay, thanks in large part to the very friendly, accommodating staff. The restaurant was amazing and had a lovely view, and the pool was really clean. Our first room had a leaking A/C, but the front desk moved us quickly. In the replacement room, the water pressure was low and the A/C swing didn't work, though neither bothered us much. That's why I gave four stars. The bathrooms were clean, but quite small, and the ceilings were low. We'd definitely come back.

We stayed one night with our family of five after safaris at Yala/Udawalawe park. This charming former residence, built in 1790, sits high above Galle with views of the city and sea. The rooms were comfortable, if compact. Breakfast was cooked to order, not served as a buffet, and the top-floor restaurant had superb views. The pool at the front was clean and a welcome way to cool off on a hot day. Staff were excellent, polite and responsive, especially Sanjana and Chamishka at reception, Thushara as duty manager, and Enoka and Manduranga in the restaurant.

Breakfast was good in the dining area on the fourth level, with its panoramic view. The room was clean, had a balcony overlooking the city, and felt comfortable. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The hotel is up a hill, so the walk there can be tiring, but it was still a pleasant place to stay in Galle.

That view from the clean, comfortable room was a treat to wake up to. I stayed two nights and found everything easy to use and working smoothly. The furniture and decor look a little dated, but the place is well kept and everything functions, so it has an old-school feel rather than seeming worn. The staff were consistently pleasant, polite and friendly, always welcoming with a smile. Breakfast came à la carte instead of as a buffet, and I didn't miss the buffet at all. It was freshly made, delicious, and clearly prepared with care. As a first-time visitor to Sri Lanka, The Lady Hill @ Galle was a relaxed, warm place to pause during my trip, and it made a strong impression before my second stop.
