No. 39 Galle Fort

The house is centrally located, making it easy to get to places of interest in galle, and the food and dining service deserve a special mention. Elegance, comfort, and the care from the house and service team made our stay at seven pillars memorable. Sharlini and Imalka also went out of their way to help when I was in a crisis. I thank them with all my heart.

We had a delicious dinner for four on our first night, prepared by imalka and his wife. Breakfast was a choice of Sri Lankan or continental, with very fresh market fruit, then eggs any way except poached, and toast with tea or coffee. The staff were utterly brilliant and always ready to help, whatever the time. From the outside, seven pillars looked simple, but the entrance opens into an enormous reception room leading to outdoor seating and a walled garden. Downstairs are two large bedrooms, each with a huge shower and bathroom, as well as the kitchen. Upstairs you’ll find the master bedroom and games room. The villa was fantastic, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. The one adjustment for us was having staff around all the time and not being able to use the washing machine ourselves. That took a bit of getting used to compared with a villa in Europe.

We found it hard to leave after such a relaxing, serene end to our Sri Lankan trip. The villa was immaculate throughout, thoughtfully furnished and finished to match the period. Each morning began with peaceful music, and at night there were candlelit touches. The location is hard to beat, right in the middle of old Galle fort, where you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. This gorgeous Dutch heritage home has been lovingly restored, and the staff’s warm welcome and service stood out. One of the most beautiful experiences for us. Highly recommend.
