Sera Villa

For the price, this is a good budget option. It’s handy if you’re planning to visit Galle, Hikka, Jungle beach, or Unawatuna. Staying a little outside Galle, about 2-3km away, costs significantly less, so I don’t think there’s a need to pay a lot more to stay right in town.

The quiet setting made it easy to relax, and breakfast had plenty of fresh, tasty choices. At Sera Villa, I also found my room spotless and nicely decorated, with the little details giving it a comfortable, home-like feel. The staff welcomed me warmly from the moment I arrived. I had a great stay and would happily return. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

I’d be cautious about booking here unless you get everything confirmed in writing. After I made a Booking.com reservation, a woman from the hotel called to say we had a non-AC room and asked whether we wanted an upgrade. The rate she quoted didn’t match my confirmation, so I said I’d check and call back. When I rang again to confirm, she was rude, said she didn’t know the price, and cut me off. The number then couldn’t be reached. I found a different number online, and a man who answered said he’d look into it and call back. He later explained that the earlier quote was per room in USD, but there wasn’t actually a room category listed at that rate. The final figure he gave matched our booking, which only made things more confusing. When we asked why the first call had ended abruptly, the same woman denied there had been a second call, became aggressive, and told us to cancel because they had plenty of other customers. The communication was very poor, the behavior was unprofessional, and nobody took responsibility.

The service was so good, and the staff were welcoming and efficient, going out of their way to make the stay pleasant. Sera Vila was spotless too, with every area carefully looked after. A clean, well-run hotel with really good service.
