Southern Comforts - Galle Fort

A lovely little room right in Galle Fort, and good value. It had AC, a fan, and a hot shower. The owners were so kind, even driving us to the train station and making sure we had all the details we needed for the rest of our travels.

We wished we could have stayed another day. The hotel is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and jewelry stores, and the nearby beach was an easy trip for a sunrise and a swim. Our room was small but cosy, with a little fridge that came in very handy. We made green tea with the kettle, using the tea bags, sugar, and cutlery in the common sit-out area. We were lucky to get a room at the top, with lovely views right from the room. Getting up there meant climbing winding spiral steps. The hotel is on one of the narrow, romantic lanes of Galle Fort. Our host was a very nice, down-to-earth person, and our one-night stay was memorable.

The family running Southern Comforts were the kindest, most welcoming people we met on our whole trip. We had a wonderful one-night stay, and the room was cosy. It’s perfectly placed inside the Fort. We can’t wait to come back one day ❤️

The location in town was convenient, and the third-floor patio had an ocean view. The stairs were steep, with a spiral section that could be hard for some people to manage. We booked a “triple” for four nights over the SriLankan New Year holiday, but got a cramped attic room with one double bed and one single. The wooden ceiling was about 7 feet high by the door, sloping to under 5 feet at the other end. There was a coat tree for hanging clothes. The AC, WiFi, dorm fridge, and shower pressure were all fine. The hosts offered to switch us to a smaller “double” with only two single beds for the same price, so generous🙄.
