Tamarind Hill

We spent four nights here in April 2026, and the peaceful setting made it easy to switch off. It’s a beautifully restored old Dutch-style building, with a lovely pool, calm surroundings, and even peacocks nearby. Our spacious room was clean and comfortable, and the food was consistently good. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to help with our requests. The manager also arranged a late check-out for us without any hassle, which we really appreciated. It was a refreshing, memorable stay, and we’d consider coming back for another quiet break.

The rooms are lovely, the staff are friendly, and there’s wildlife to watch if you’re after a quiet stay. I love this hotel. The one small drawback is that there’s no bar, though you can bring your own drinks and the hotel can provide glasses and ice buckets.

We chose Tamarind Hill Galle for our wedding, and the team helped make the day feel seamless. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and our guests enjoyed the selection. Staff were warm, attentive, and professional, taking care of details and making everyone feel comfortable. The courtyard and garden were lovely spaces for our guests, and the evening atmosphere was breathtaking, with tropical greenery, birds, and occasional peacocks around the property. The restored 18th-century manor has high ceilings, antique décor, and a courtyard centered on a majestic tamarind tree. Its colonial architecture paired with modern luxury made the celebration feel intimate but grand. Just outside historic Galle, the mansion has a peaceful, romantic feel. We couldn’t have asked for a better place for such an important day, and we highly recommend it.

The rooms were clean and amazing, and the food was nice. Service was good too, though we had to keep calling when we wanted anything added. The old Dutch fort itself is attractive and has a nice pool, but the setting felt lonely and not lively at all. Lizards wandered inside and around the dining area, which put us off. Even with other guests there, it felt as if we were alone in the whole property. Peacocks roam freely as well. It may be listed as a five-star hotel, but it felt far from that to me. There are better options in the same area and price range.
