The Bend

Lovely, cozy room right on the main street, with easy access to places to eat. Parking our tuk-tuk was a bit difficult, but the young man who checked us in was really helpful. Everyone treated us warmly. I’d highly recommend it.

We ended up at The Bend by chance after our booked hotel didn’t work out. At twilight, we were wandering around Galle Fort looking for somewhere to stay and simply walked in. Our corner room had a double bed, an en suite bathroom with glass walls, and a balcony overlooking the street. It cost 10,000 rupees per night. It’s clean, centrally located and good value for budget accommodation in a place where stays can be expensive. Light comes in through French doors on two sides, and the balcony looks down two cross-streets. There’s both a ceiling fan and air-conditioning. A few things were awkward: the bed is pushed against the wall, so one person has to climb over the other to get out; the AC controller is erratic, though it eventually works with persistence, and the broken fan knob leaves the fan stuck on its highest setting. For the price, though, it’s a good option in Galle Fort.

The Assitant brother was especially supportive and treated us like family. He also prepared a delicious breakfast. Hospitality is clearly a big part of this place. The rooms were super clean, and my family was thrilled with the facilities. It’s also easy to get to the food stalls and restaurants around Galle Fort. I’d recommend it to locals and foreigners visiting the fort and its food and drink spots.

Clean, well-arranged room and good service. The meals were fresh and yummy too. Highly recommend this place.
