Yoho Hotel Hillside

The one nice part was the morning view. We stayed the day before a family wedding, and an old man took us to our room in a way that annoyed us and ruined our first impression. The room was awful, with a cockroach inside, and it felt like being in a jungle. The wedding hall was still dirty and smelled bad. The food was terrible, and the cutlets were spoiled. Another wedding guest showed me how dirty the spoon containers were, which made me really uncomfortable at a family gathering.

The hotel itself was average, but one employee with a bad attitude made the stay horrible. Some of the restaurant staff seemed emotionless and stubborn, and the food was below average from all the MSG/Ajinomoto they used. When our children were taking pictures in the dining area, that same employee told them not to take photos and to go away. There’s real potential here, but the owner needs to pay more attention to customer service. Employees should be trained to deal with customers. I’ll never visit again.

It was a dirty place. The water glasses weren’t cleaned properly and smelled bad, and there was even a used mask floating in the pool. When I asked for a room to change in, staff told me to use the washroom instead. They had promised me a room when I booked, then said it wasn’t possible at the hotel.

The pool area was great, the rooms were superb, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. If you’re visiting Sri Lanka as a tourist, this is an amazing place to stay. Spend a night and you’ll be impressed by the food menu and the surroundings.
