The pool and courtyard are lovely, and the beachside setting is peaceful, though you can’t get to the beach directly from the property. We appreciated the early check-in and welcome smoothies, and the staff were friendly. Our room, No. 4, was clean and nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed, hot water, working air conditioning, tea and coffee, and bottled water. The room was small and right beside the busy main road, so traffic noise went on from dawn until late evening. Bits of woodworm or termite deposits were falling from the beams, which made the room unsuitable. After delays and miscommunication, we were moved to another villa and the problem was resolved, but the move could have happened sooner. The main disappointment was beach access. Broken steps and blocked paths meant we had to enter through a nearby restaurant, which felt awkward. When we brought it up, management said swimming wasn’t safe anyway, but that didn’t address our point: guests expect to reach the beach directly and enjoy the view and atmosphere. At night, nobody was around to serve drinks in the courtyard. Given the higher price compared with other places we stayed, these issues made the visit less enjoyable than expected. The hotel has charm and friendly staff, but the room location, maintenance, and beach access need attention. Avoid Room 4, and be aware the sea has strong currents.

Mr. Suranga, the manager, stayed with us through the night and made sure we felt secure. There were only two girls staying there that night, and his honesty and humility made us feel very safe and comfortable. We had a peaceful, pleasant stay at Moi Thalpe. The oceanfront location is beautiful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Highly recommend.

Damit, the head chef, took special care to put together a custom menu for our pure vegetarian preferences, and the food was unexpectedly outstanding. With that view, it felt like we were staying inside a beautiful café. Amazing hospitality from Moi. Big thanks to the whole Moi Talpe team for helping us have such a great time.

The rooms were comfortable and breakfast was good, and the staff were very friendly. Still, housekeeping wasn’t very proactive or attentive, and several other issues mean we won’t stay again. When there was a lot of sea spray, touching appliances gave us a shock or electrical current. The circuit breaker also kept shutting off, apparently because of moisture or spray. The beach stairs were neglected and unsafe, with apparently no plans to repair them. Staff weren’t on site at night, and we couldn’t reach anyone when we misplaced our key. The door locks didn’t feel very secure. The safes were out of reach, unbolted, and had no batteries. We were shocked there was no generator for power cuts.
