My husband and I ate at the hotel, though we didn’t stay there. The food was brilliant, some of the best we’ve had. I’d recommend eating here whether you’re a guest or just nearby.

The rooms are nice and have everything I need, including AC, hot water, a fridge, a balcony, and a great view. The location is really convenient too, with the supermarket, fruit market, cafes, restaurants, and beaches all easy to reach. But the main reason I love Hikkaduwa is L&D lodge. I love the whole staff, especially Victoria. They make you feel welcome, always smile, and are always ready to help.

It’s only a few steps to the local amenities, and the best beach in Hikkaduwa is about five minutes away. You’ve got a diving club, a calm beach with turtles, a surf beach, shops, fruit stands, and cafes nearby. Even so, the hotel isn’t on the beachfront, so it stays quiet. This little hotel is great for a holiday. The rooms and shared areas were spotless, and the staff were helpful. Everything felt carefully thought through: kettle and dishes, air conditioning, towels and linen, hot water, a fridge, and a desk. There’s also a small balcony with a table for breakfast. The textured glass lets in daylight while keeping the room private from outside.

Breakfast was a highlight, with both Sri Lankan and western options. The train didn’t bother us at all, especially since we’re used to the general noise levels in Asian countries. This was one of our best stays in Sri Lanka. Everything was spotless, and the standards were high, even by international standards. We’d definitely go back.
