Nippon Villa Beach Resort

Guests in other rooms were shouting and playing loud music in the common area well past 23:00. The resort facilities weren’t working, and the pool looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. The stairway to the beach was shattered, literally. Inside, the rooms were falling apart: one window was off its frame and leaning over the opening, the furniture was old and tired, sockets hung off the walls with bare wires, and half the lights didn’t work.

The views are breathtaking, and the staff are sincere. The atmosphere makes this resort feel almost perfect for a wonderful break. I’ve stayed at the Paris Ritz and the Geneva Metropole, and visited resorts in tropical countries many times, so I’ll be frank: the service may not be at a 5-star level. I’d still definitely recommend this place.

We paid 1000 LKR per person for a tasty, plentiful breakfast buffet. The room was spacious and affordable, and it was cleaned daily, with towels changed every day. The AC worked, but the rooms stayed damp and didn’t have enough ventilation. The facility could use some repairs, and we had power outages during our stay. (Off season 2017).

The location is the one convenient thing about this place. It needs a complete renovation, the rooms are old and dirty, and the price is too high. One triple cost 12k with breakfast, but the breakfast wasn’t worth it. They don’t even have a food or drinks menu. Not recommended.
