Time N Tide Beach Resort

The beachfront setting and nice view were good, and the hotel is about 2 km from the city center, with lots of shops around. The receptionist was okay, but the owner had a terrible attitude. The receptionist said there was one room left when I asked, then the owner suddenly appeared and shouted that there were no rooms. I planned to stay five days but left after two. The whole experience was horrible, the rooms smelled, and there seemed to be no proper policies. I was the only local tourist there at the time and felt they treated me as if I were staying for free. It was not worth the money, and I don't recommend it.

The rooms looked okay, and the pizzeria is good. We had a reservation confirmed by email, but at noon check-in they asked us to wait for the room to be vacated. We came back at 16:00, and reception told us to return at 20:00. We decided not to wait, since there was no certainty they would give us a room at all. Maybe it’s better to book a room without a reservation.

The only good thing was how easy it was to get to the beach. We stayed one night on a bed and breakfast basis, but the website said a full English breakfast was available and they only offered a few slices of bread with an omelet. The staff were not decent. Can't recommend.

The staff service was about what I’d expect from Sri Lankans, not very good, though they do eventually get the job done. The location is handy, right on the beach and just a short pleasant walk from the board hire places in front of the break. A full day’s hire for any board is about 1000rp. Rooms are clean and well equipped, with mozzie nets over the beds and split system air conditioning. Mine is the top spec room, with a balcony overlooking the beach.
