Thejan Beach Cabanas

The location was amazing, but the resort was poorly maintained and our stay was very uncomfortable. The cabana was old and outdated, and the whole property needs upkeep. The floor was wet when we arrived, and there was an odd smell in the room throughout. The old AC wasn’t working; after about 10 minutes, its unit fell onto the floor. A worker spent over 45 minutes trying to fix it and still couldn’t.

The property has a good location, but the cabana badly needs maintenance. The floor was a little wet at check-in, and the AC was in poor shape, vibrating before part of the unit fell down. It took 1.5 hours to fix, and even after that it still didn’t work properly.

Five of us stopped for a quick lunch on the way. Two waiters took our order, but neither could answer a simple question about the dishes. We were told the food would take half an hour, which seemed reasonable since we were practically the only people there. We ordered four drinks, two Cokes, soda, and lassi. The Cokes arrived in two minutes, but we waited 20 minutes for the lassi and half an hour for the soda. We had to ask three times and search around the venue for staff because nobody was there to serve or talk to us. The food took an hour and ten minutes, and the chicken was like chewing gum after all that cooking. Ten minutes after we finished, we still had to walk around looking for someone to bring the bill. We refused to pay the service charge since it isn’t mandatory and the service had been worse than poor. After we returned to our van, where our guide and driver were waiting, one waiter ran after us, knocked on the van, swore at us, and said he’d start breaking the car if we drove off. The rudest, laziest, most arrogant and aggressive waiter I’ve ever encountered in hospitality, anywhere in the world.

Stay away from this restaurant. You’ll wait forever after ordering. The waiter was unbelievably slow and kept forgetting things. I had to go remind them three times that we were still waiting for our food. Because the service was so poor, we refused to pay the service charge, and the man started threatening our driver.
