We loved our three-night stay. The staff looked after us so well and were charming and helpful throughout. The building has a lot of history and character, and our room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed, a decent shower and bathroom, and a separate lounge with a TV. Breakfast was generous and delicious. It’s on a quiet street, and since Jaffna is spread out, we usually got around by tuk-tuk. I’d highly recommend it.

The staff were wonderful and went out of their way whenever we needed anything. We also really enjoyed the characterful rooms, the refreshing pool, and the delicious breakfasts. The guesthouse sits just outside Jaffna’s busy centre, so a short tuk-tuk ride gets you into town while the quieter setting gives you a little break from the noise. Highly recommend!

Niranjan paid close attention to the details and made sure our requests were handled, and the rest of the staff gave excellent service too. Thambu Illam is a convenient place to stay while visiting Jaffna, in a well-kept heritage property that is 142 years old.

The bathroom was a little small, but it didn’t take away from a very enjoyable stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and the service was very good. Management communicated proactively and really well. Thambu Illam has an interesting architectural design, a great location, and plenty of character.

The Jaffna-style breakfast and the service were highlights for us. We also loved the architecture of this beautiful home, which is more than a hundred years old, especially the open-roof central courtyard and pool. We’ll be back!
