Kalkudah Beach House

Sugath made fantastic food, all high quality and tasty. We loved the inventive breakfasts, salad lunches, and wonderful dinners, especially the seafood feast. Nishantha and the rest of the staff looked after us with big smiles and made sure everything was just right. We had an amazing four days at Kalkudah Beach House, enjoying the pool and the beautiful, clean, secluded beach, with no one else for miles and perfect sand. We’d love to come back.

The staff were just as warm, attentive, and friendly as we could have hoped, and chef Sugath spoiled us with outstanding meals. I especially loved the traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry, coconut crème brûlée, and seafood ceviche. We spent four nights here in February 2026 and left feeling completely recharged. The quiet moments at the house were the best: reading on the terraces, swimming in the pool, or playing croquet and billiards. We also took trips to Arugam Bay, Kumana Park, and Batticaloa. The place is peaceful and set up perfectly for relaxing. The management deserves credit for its strong commitment to sustainability. Solar panels provide most of the electricity, and the water comes from wells and goes through a reverse osmosis filtration system, shown as the white tower in my pictures. Drinking water is complimentary and filtered on site, and the bathroom amenities come in stylish refillable containers. They’ve thought of everything. Highly recommended!

We had a lovely candlelit dinner right on the beach, with waves in the background, flickering candles in the sand, and an unforgettable seafood feast. Every dish was fresh and delicious, and the team went out of their way to make it special. The beach is stunning, with soft golden sand, calm water, and a really peaceful feel. Beautiful gardens and a manicured lawn lead right down to it. Kalkudah Beach House combines the natural setting with warm hospitality and thoughtful touches.

There was plenty to do nearby, including an easy 1.5-hour drive to Polonnaruwa and a longer day trip to Kumana National Park for a stellar safari. We also could have happily stayed on the grounds, lounging by the pool and playing croquet and petanque in the garden with cocktails. This was the final stop on our two-week tour of Sri Lanka and the absolute highlight. A secluded white-sand beach is only steps away, and with just five rooms the stay feels personal, more like a private villa than a hotel, while still getting exceptional service. Chef Sugath and the onsite pastry chef both deserve a special mention. We didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to return.
