Werala Beach Resort

We spent more than three weeks here in February and early March 2026. Sunny (Sunith), the owner, lives on site with his family and was very attentive, helping with things like a borrowed pushbike and rides to local places such as the medical centre. We stayed in a larger room facing the sea. It had good air conditioning, a comfortable bed, and a hot-water shower. The food was freshly cooked and well priced. There's no set menu, and all the guests eat the same meal. The garden is delightful, with plenty of places to sit. Sunny can also arrange dolphin watching. For getting around, the bus to Kalpitiya takes about 15 minutes. There's a dive centre next door, kitesurfing is a five-minute walk away, and a small supermarket is around a ten-minute walk. The beach is used for water sports, so it's not really for swimming or sunbathing, though swimming is possible if you're careful. It's about a three-hour drive from the airport and an hour and a half to Wilpattu national park.
