Amandari has become one of the highlights of our trips to Sri Lanka. The couple who look after it are wonderful, and the genuine homestay feel means you get to enjoy authentic 'gami' (village-style) Sri Lankan food and hospitality. It’s on a hillside above a peaceful, beautiful valley, about half an hour outside Kandy. You can head into town easily enough, or stay put and relax. The villa was one of the first houses built in the area and has recently been refreshed. It still has its charm, with a pool now and lots of room for families to unwind. We’ll be back!

The food was a real highlight, with fresh, flavorful Sri Lankan dishes made from local ingredients. Amandhari Villa is also close to Kandy’s cultural landmarks, including the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, while still feeling like a quiet escape from the city. Mr and Mrs Rathnayake were warm and attentive throughout, making sure we had what we needed without intruding. The spacious rooms were beautifully decorated and looked out over lush scenery. The villa itself mixes modern comfort with traditional Sri Lankan architecture, and we loved the peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking hill views from the moment we arrived. It was an amazing stay, with a great balance of relaxation, luxury, and cultural immersion. I left feeling refreshed and can’t wait to return.

The couple hosting us were lovely. They made sure we were comfortable, gave us privacy, and cooked heavenly meals. We’ll really miss the home cooking, as well as the peace and quiet here. It’s a great place to chill and relax, and we’ll certainly come back.

A lovely place to spend time with family while visiting Kandy. The calm surroundings make it easy to relax from a busy routine. Our room was clean, the food was delicious, and the owner’s family were very friendly and gave us great service.
