Central City Hostel

The food was amazing, and the owner was so friendly. It’s a lovely place at a fair price, tucked away on a quiet backstreet. Our room was small but clean, comfortable and perfectly functional, and the decor was lovely.

Our room was on the ground floor, which had worried us, but it turned out fine. With the shutters open, there was plenty of light, and it wasn’t noisy. The room and bathroom were both clean and tidy. The hotel arranged our laundry, and it was returned within 24 hours. Breakfast was a good Sri Lankan spread, with a choice of fried, scrambled or omelette eggs to start, and plenty of food. We noticed cereal being served to other families with children. We ate dinner there twice, and the portions were generous, especially the curry, which was very good. The hotel also gave us a free tuk-tuk to the train station when we left. It’s about a 20-minute walk to a temple and the lake, and from there you’re not far from the bus and train stations. A very good stay.

The rooftop view was amazing, and we enjoyed seeing knuckle mountain over breakfast. It’s close to town and the big white Buddha. We had a lovely stay, with friendly service and a clean, cool room with excellent air con. Breakfast was great, especially the spicy omelette when requested.

The owners were lovely and accommodating, and our room was clean and fresh, one of the best we had. Breakfast was tasty and generous. Blue Pillars Hotel felt like a hidden gem. We were welcomed with coffee on the rooftop terrace, with a fabulous view of the city and sunrise. Getting to the town centre was easy with a 300 lkr tuktuk ride, and Pickme works very well in Kandy.
