Colonial Residence Kandy

We loved the pool and the piano, which added some entertainment during our two nights here. This beautiful colonial house is in the heart of Katugasthota town near Kandy, with shops nearby for quick purchases and other needs. The rooms come in different categories and were spacious with a modern touch. Staff were caring and attentive. There’s a large green garden with plenty of room for kids to run around. We had a great experience and would recommend it.

The staff are lovely and the rooms are clean, but the location and breakfast were poor. It’s described as 2.5 km from the city, but felt more like 7 km to me. The compound-style hotel stays locked, so you have to call staff to let you in or out. Breakfast was very small, more like what I’d expect at a 4,000-a-night homestay than a 28,000-a-night hotel. We paid $260 AUD for two nights. Watch for extra charges: 10% service charge, which doesn’t go to the staff, and 12% VAT on top of the agreed price.

I felt right at home here. The interior was beautiful, the staff were lovely, and this might be the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. When they learned it was my birthday the next day and jackfruit is my favourite fruit, they gave me a huge one ☺️ Thanks from Ukraine!

I was honestly a little worried about the place before arriving, but once I saw it, everything felt perfect to me. I also had a little chat with the owner, who was really kind and hospitable. The whole team deserves my heartfelt thanks. I’m sure I’ll stay here whenever I visit Kandy. Colonial residence Kandy is my favourite place now, and I was very sad to leave. See you again soon 🫶🏻.
