Dumbanagala Chalet in the Knuckles

My father and I stayed for one night and were greeted with excellent service. The room was lovely, with clean hot showers, and the food was absolutely delicious. The surrounding scenery and natural beauty are hard to put into words. We highly recommend staying here.

We had a family outing with 13 people, so we rented the whole Chalet. I think there are seven rooms and that they could fit more people. The rooms were clean, cozy, and neatly arranged, and even the little ones really enjoyed the food. The mountain views from the Chalet are breathtaking, especially the sunset over the misty ranges, which felt like a once-in-a-lifetime sight. The road from Hunnasgiriya to the Chalet and Meemure is mostly paved and in good condition, though a bit narrow. I’d highly recommend the place.

A hidden gem and a fantastic experience. The scenery is beautiful, and the weather changes so often it feels like being in another world. It’s one of the best maintained places I’ve visited, and the service is next level.

There’s plenty to fill two days here, so I’d suggest booking at least two nights, especially if you’re with family or friends. The hotel sits in the Knuckles mountain range, with wide views over the peaks and valleys. You can cool off in clear river pools or hike through picturesque Meemure village. Cell reception is limited, which makes it easy to unplug, though the WiFi is excellent. After a busy day, we liked gathering by the cozy fireplace to play games or curling up on the soft couches to watch Netflix. Mornings are chilly and nights foggy. When the fog clears in the middle of the night, you can see a sky full of stars thanks to the little light pollution. The menu is simple, but the food is tasty and filling. The two elderly cooks put a lot of care into it. The staff were friendly and attentive, especially Mr Kanchana, the property manager. This hidden gem feels well worth the price.
