The bed was the one thing that bothered me. It looked like someone had slept in it, and the sheets didn’t seem fresh. The rest of the place was quite clean. The hosts are lovely, and the area is very peaceful, a nice choice if you want to avoid the bustle. It’s about a 15-minute walk downhill to the city centre, though the uphill walk back to the hotel is tough.

The rooms were well kept, and I slept well away from the busy city. I spent two nights here. Kandy is still within walking distance, or they can arrange a tuktuk for 300 rupees if you prefer. Breakfast is provided for everyone. I’d recommend it.

The host and place were both lovely. My room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. If the train to Ella is full, the hostel can arrange a car via the waterfall and tea plantation, with a drop-off at Nanu Oya so you have a better chance of getting a seat. Highly recommend Azalea.

We’d planned on one night at Azalea and ended up staying for two. The team helped us arrange a full day of sightseeing for 9000 rupies, and it was well worth it. Breakfast was small, though there was unlimited toast. The place is a little tucked away, but a 200 rupies took took into town was easy to arrange. Don’t let the lack of air conditioning put you off, it never got too hot. We were very happy with the whole stay.

Really nice people here, and we got lots of useful advice. The hostel is beautiful and comfortable, though a little hard to find. Every bed has a mosquito net. Highly recommend!
