I was disappointed by how poorly maintained this place was and by the way management treated guests. Booking.com shows an 8.2 rating, but that didn't match our experience. The owner, Vijitha, came across as hostile and unwelcoming when we tried to discuss the facilities. She was defensive and wouldn't really listen or work through the issues. If this was how she treated us as locals, I can only imagine how tourists and foreigners might be treated. The advertised hot water wasn't reliable. It didn't work in some rooms and barely worked in others. They also list air-conditioned rooms, but some of the units don't work, so they seem to be there just for show. In our family room for four, we were given only two towels. Many basics aren't included, and Vijitha insists toilet paper isn't provided. Who expects to bring their own roll to a hotel? The facilities could perhaps have been overlooked if the management had been respectful, but guests of all ages, including children, were personally spoken to harshly. If you book, arrive with low expectations. I don't think a place should call itself a hotel or inn if it can't provide that level of experience.

For the price, this was a good deal. The hosts were friendly, the room was clean, and the bed was fine. No frills, but the fan kept us cool overnight without air conditioning. The location isn't special, though it's close to the train station and an easy walk to everything else.

The bathroom smell was awful and spread through the whole room. It didn't seem to have any ventilation, and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned. Water also leaked from the bidet and covered the floor, which could be dangerous for an elderly person. The door locks were so complicated they were barely usable, and the staff were rude and hostile. A disgusting stay from start to finish.

The staff were lovely, but the hotel felt very run down and sits on a busy road. It was convenient for the train station, though, especially for the Kandy to Ella route.

The host was friendly and shared useful information, and the railway station is only about a 10-minute walk away. My bathroom was clean, and although I didn't see any mosquitoes, they had a mosquito net available. I did find some kind of bugs on the bed. I don't think that was the hotel's fault, and I suppose it's something you get used to in this country. Otherwise, everything was great.
