Pine Hill Residence

The staff were respectful and helpful, and breakfast was tasty, but the place felt poorly maintained, with loose plugs, broken taps and switches, and other issues. We stayed overnight with our family and toddler, and it was a really bad experience. Our room had a large balcony shared with another room. The morning view was lovely, but that was about the only good thing about it. The balcony handle was broken, so I had to figure out how to open the door. The tea kettle, tea, and milk powder were under the TV, nowhere near an outlet. Its cord was too short to unplug the TV and reach the kettle. We tried another socket with a multi-plug, but it was loose and sparked. I had to hold it in place just to keep the kettle working. See pictures. The bathroom itself was adequate, but there was a power plug right beside the shower, which felt dangerous. There were lots of mosquitoes, too. They had left the bathroom window open, and by morning we were being bitten. When I raised it, they said there were plug-in repellents in the room, but we couldn't find one, and it wasn't mentioned in the room brochure. I got the impression the manager or owner was doing the bare minimum and mainly wanted to get the money. He seemed more concerned with having us do checkout paperwork the day before so he wouldn't need to come in early. It felt like they were just ticking boxes for a three-star rating.

We had such a peaceful stay, a welcome change from the bustle of Kandy town, and the views from both our room and the restaurant were amazing. The staff were lovely and went out of their way to help us. Getting a Pick Me to and from town was difficult because of the location, though the hotel can call local taxi drivers. The Sri Lankan curry and rice at the restaurant was one of the trip's highlights.

We had a great family stay at the Pine Hills Residence. The food was delicious at all three meals, and our kids loved it so much. The rooms and other areas were really comfortable, with a beautiful view outside. Staff were fantastic, always friendly and checking how we were getting on. Their customer service really impressed me.

Mr. Hemantha, the owner, made us feel welcome and was supportive throughout our stay. Lakmal, Channa, and Chinthaka were also wonderful, friendly and professional, and always ready to help. The peaceful hill views alone make Pine Hill Residence in Kandy worth the visit. We felt comfortable and at home here. Highly recommended for a calm break with beautiful scenery and excellent hospitality.
