Serene Villa 38

We had a lovely family stay here. The rooms are large, there's a pool with a view, and breakfast was great, the best we had in Sri Lanka. Everything is within walking distance.

There's a huge living space here, with a dining room and kitchen, which makes it a great place for families and friends. The service was very nice and the food was good quality, and breakfast was awesome. But the room felt quite small, especially with my toddler, and vegetarian choices were very limited. I couldn't find many options to eat. I'd recommend it for families and friends, but not for people traveling with infants or toddlers.

The breakfast was amazing, with the chef preparing the food right there in the kitchen. There isn't a pool at this hotel, though you can walk to the sister hotel to swim. We had a wonderful one-night stay. The room was spacious and clean, the washroom was really nice, and the shower was amazing. The city view was quite nice, and the dining area also had a nice view and comfortable seating.

When we visited in Jan 2017, the villa looked new, and everything was up to date and working well. Serene grand "villa" is a good place to spend a few nights in Kandy, as a sister property to the main "Serene Grand Hotel" down the road. They share a website, so check which property you're booking. Two other sister hotels are on the same road, and the chain could share resources when needed. We'd try to stay with this hotel group again. The small restaurant was the only facility outside the room. Its food was good quality and competitively priced in rupees. The hotel is on a hill, like most around Kandy, but active guests can walk to the center in under 15 minutes. We paid 300 rupees for a ride back uphill. The double bedroom and shower room were a good size, with adequate hanging and drawer space. Hot water from the central boiler and solar supply was unlimited, and the shower pressure was good. Soundproofing was excellent and internet speed was good for browsing. There were lots of ants on the floor, so don't leave food open or water uncovered. Daily cleaning was good and included insect treatment for the floors. Don't skip room service or the ants will take over.
