The place is neat, and the woman who manages it, a former educational director, is friendly and understanding. Her son lives on another floor and may be able to help too. Eating places and a shopping area are nearby, and there’s a shortcut to Peradeniya Rd. I found walking arduous, but it could suit a guest who wants a simple place.

The private double room was pleasant and reasonably priced. The bathroom was clean, with a powerful warm shower, and the kitchen and fridge had the essentials, though there were no tea towels. Some parts of the hostel smelled damp, probably normal in such a rainy area. The owner was friendly and shared useful information about the area and Sri Lankan culture. The location is far from the main city, so you’ll have a long walk or need a tuktuk for things. There is a view, but it’s not especially good. We also waited an hour to check in, despite arriving more than two hours after the official check-in time, because of an unexpected late checkout. I didn’t feel well treated then, and the staff and owner seemed poorly organized. Still, I can recommend the hostel.

The host was welcoming and helpful, explaining the hostel and nearby places in detail. The hostel is very clean and has a good vibe, perched above a hill among lots of big trees.

Clean, simple, and modern, with great wifi and a kitchen. The manager is really friendly, and you can’t beat the price. Highly recommend Sleep Cheep.
