St Bridget's Country Bungalow

The owners were friendly, and the pool is a rare find in this area. The AC was great, the bed very comfortable, and the shower good. I didn't try the food, and breakfast couldn't be served before 7:30, if that matters to you. The pool loungers had no cushions, so sitting there wasn't comfortable. It's beside a road and a bit noisy, though it didn't disturb our sleep. Towels were quite threadbare. Town is a little too far to walk, so you'll need tuk tuks.

The owner was friendly, and the room was clean and newly built in a Western style, designed by the owners’ British trained daughter. The homemade food was refreshing. Order meals an hour ahead, since they're made from scratch. It's a little outside the city, but only a quick tuk tuk ride away.

The road beside the hotel was very busy, with constant truck noise and honking, but my main concern was the payment. The owner took cash only and set his own exchange rate, using one from three years ago when the currency was at its peak. I tried several times to reason with him, but he became aggressive. I felt intimidated and had no real choice but to pay an amount that didn't reflect the current rate. I felt extremely unsafe. This was my worst experience in Sri Lanka, a complete trap. I strongly advise against staying here. If I could give zero stars, I would.

We had a lovely stay. The hosts were very open and willing to help, and they even helped us sort out a problem from an earlier ride. Just ask if you need anything. I can definitely recommend staying here.
