The Elephant Stables

We only had one night and wished we could’ve stayed longer. From our balcony the views over Kandy were amazing, and the guest living room’s colonial decor was gorgeous. Our four-poster bed was lovely too. The staff were so friendly and genuinely helpful, and the food was fantastic. I chose the Sri Lankan Curry, which was delicious, but there was so much of it that I hated leaving any behind. Elephant Stables is a real gem, and Kandy has plenty to see, so I’d recommend staying more than a night. Thanks to all the staff.

Christmas at the elephant stables was fantastic, with great food, service, and staff. Our tent room was spacious and nice, though it didn’t have the natural light we’d hoped for.

Set high on a hill near the centre of Kandy, the place is peaceful and quiet. The team were very helpful and nothing seemed like too much trouble. Meals were tasty: there’s a daily set menu with a good range of local dishes, plus an à la carte menu for more western tastes.

After my family and I were in a serious car crash on the way to Kandy, we spent a week at Elephant Stables while I recovered and we visited our family member in a nearby hospital. The staff supported us with such kindness and care that the place felt like home, and their attention to detail made recovery much easier. At 4am one morning, my partner urgently needed to get to hospital. Staff woke quickly to call an ambulance and explain the situation to the paramedics. The chef, manager, and maintenance staff carried my partner down the stairs to it. One maintenance staff member even rode with us and stayed at the hospital to help translate. I can’t say how grateful I am that we ended up here after the crash. The staff did everything they could to make us comfortable in difficult circumstances, and I’ll always be thankful for their dedication.
