The bungalow sits right by the river under the trees, which made it a lovely place to arrive at. My brother and I came for a day of rafting at Kitulgala. Neither of us had tried it before, but we’d heard about Channa Perera's Rafter's Retreat and went straight there. Our instructor was experienced and guided us confidently through the rapids. Along the way, we talked about rafting, the river, and the area. The scenery was beautiful throughout the long trip. At a deep, calm stretch, he let us jump in, float, and swim for a while. The package also came with a welcome drink and a high quality Sri Lankan lunch. For what we paid, we felt we got much more than our money’s worth. We could also pay extra for a memory card with photos and videos the instructor took during the ride. The manager, instructor, and the woman who served lunch were all friendly. I’d like to return and maybe stay for a day or two.

We had a great time playing cricket, mountain biking, and rafting. It all felt easy, beautiful, and fun. At Rafters Retreat, the staff were lovely and helpful, and we felt looked after and comfortable right away. For dinner we picked the Sri Lankan option, which came with seven different dishes. They could make it not spicy if you prefer.

The treehouse-style hotel was such a great place to stay. We arrived to warming tea and an offer of delicious dinner. Our rafting started on time at 11am, and we also had fun playing cricket with the employees. I’d definitely recommend rafters retreat.

A good fit for nature lovers or anyone wanting to get away from city crowds and noise. The rooms are basic and very eco-friendly, though if mosquitoes are a problem for you, I wouldn’t recommend it. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, but I found it a little overpriced. Breakfast was good. I tried the buffet dinner once and honestly didn’t enjoy it. The menu was basic and limited, and at 2000 it didn’t feel worth the price. I don’t like Srilanka’s food, though.

The rafting is a must do, really professional and exciting. The staff were very nice, and the setting is incredible, with beautiful river views from the rooms.
