Koggala Beach Hotel

Personal belongings went missing from our room during our stay. I can't say whether it was negligence or something worse, but either way, we didn't feel safe leaving anything unattended. Koggala Beach Hotel and Long Beach Resort seem to be the same property, and both feel neglected and run down. The price is nowhere near justified. Rooms were dirty, bathrooms revolting, and the corridors smelled like years of poor maintenance. There was mold on the walls, stained surfaces, and drains that regularly let insects into the room. The showers looked like they belonged in a prison. The cleaning was unacceptable. The floors had a greasy film and sour smell after being “mopped,” which felt unhygienic, not merely old. Wi-Fi barely worked, if at all. It seems the hotel stays open thanks to large tourist groups brought by agencies. There are much better places on the Sri Lankan coast for the same money. Don't waste your comfort or trust here.

The beach was a real highlight. It was clean and well looked after, with no rubbish or pollution, and the water was crystal clear. We visited last December and had a memorable, satisfying stay. The hotel was relaxing, and the staff were very customer-friendly. The meals were consistently good, with high-quality food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. For the money, it was well worth it.

The buffet had a wide range of local food, and the meals were excellent. Staff were friendly and smiling, easy to reach, and the rooms were cleaned daily. The pools were clean too. The hotel is right by the beach with a lovely sea view, though the waves are usually too strong for swimming. It's spacious and has all the essentials, but parts of it feel worn.

The buffet was worth the price, with good Sri Lankan and Western food, and the staff were welcoming. The beach beside the hotel is beautiful and not crowded, though the sea can be rough and there were no lifeguards around. It's a large two-storey hotel on long Koggala beach, and getting there is easy, with public transport just across the road. The furniture looked like it dated from the 1980s, so the place needs refurbishment. I also found it odd that I had to wear a wristband during my stay.
