The Epitome

The buffet had a great range, and everything we tried tasted fresh and well prepared. It was beautifully laid out, too. The staff kept the service moving smoothly even though it was a busy Valentine’s Day, and they were friendly and attentive all evening. We came to Epitome for dinner on 14th February to celebrate my wife’s birthday and Valentine’s Day. The welcoming atmosphere made it feel right for a special occasion, and the food, service, and ambience made the evening memorable. We’ll definitely return.

My one-night stay was comfortable. The rooms are a little small, but clean and well maintained, and the hotel had good food with several menu options. We held our wedding at Epitome Hotel, and the team supported the arrangements from beginning to end. Mr. Praveen, our coordinator, was especially helpful and organized, and his work kept everything running smoothly. The hotel handled things so professionally that I don’t think you need to hire a separate wedding planner. I had a very good experience and would recommend Epitome Hotel for weddings and short stays.

Ms. Thilankaa was kind and professional, and she coordinated well. Aside from the service staff, the rest of the event was satisfactory. The stewards were the biggest disappointment for us and many of our guests. They seemed inexperienced and unfamiliar with basic wedding service. They struggled with the sawan trays, didn’t ask guests about refills, and left tables unattended. We had to keep reminding them to replenish food and clear tables. On my sister’s wedding day, my cousins and I ended up lifting sawans and helping serve, even though the event cost LKR 1.6 million. That was completely unacceptable. The operations manager assigned to the event also failed to supervise. While we were trying to coordinate and help the staff, he was sitting at a table. There was no proper leadership during an important occasion. We held my sister’s wedding at Epitome Hotel. Some parts went well, but this level of steward service was far below what we expected from a reputed hotel hosting weddings. I hope management takes this seriously and improves staff training and event operations. Poor service can spoil what should be a once-in-a-lifetime day.

The mixed fried rice was delicious, and the watalappan tasted rich and authentic. I finished with a smooth, creamy cheesecake. We had a very satisfying à la carte lunch at Epitome Hotel, with friendly, attentive, professional service throughout. Highly recommend the food and service.
