Devon Rest

We had a wonderful one-night stay in a clean, calm place that was just right for a relaxing getaway. The food was delicious and well prepared, and the friendly, helpful staff made us comfortable throughout. Highly recommended, we'd love to visit again!

The front desk and banquet staff were courteous and handled everything professionally. Check-in and checkout went smoothly, and the event arrangements were well organized. Our room was clean, comfortable, and kept in good condition, with what we needed for a restful stay. Food and drinks were tasty, with a good selection, and the team responded quickly whenever we needed something. I was very happy with the service and would recommend Devon Rest for work trips or a holiday.

I came on 30/10/2025 with a South African group of 19 as a National Tourist Guide Lecturer, and I had recommended this hotel. When I went for breakfast on 1/11, the restaurant manager tried to charge me for it, even though other hotels provide a meal, especially breakfast, for the guide. The clients had booked the stay, that’s true, but I was the one who had recommended the hotel. Nishan at reception apologized and asked me to eat, but I’m not a beggar. That was a very indecent act by the manager. Be aware.

The restaurant was the one letdown. The food arrived very slowly and was cold or barely warm, which we’ve run into often in Sri Lanka. The omelettes at breakfast were good, but the rest of the buffet was disappointingly cold. Staff were attentive, sometimes too attentive, taking plates away before people had finished. The lakeside setting is peaceful and a lovely break from the bustle. Our airy, attractive room had a comfortable bed and a thoughtfully designed en-suite. It was a great stay overall, though the restaurant could improve.
