Shehani Beach Bungalow

The setting was the best part: our room was one step from an almost empty beach, with gorgeous views and a peaceful atmosphere. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance, so it’s easy to eat elsewhere. I’d recommend the place for the scenery, location and atmosphere, but not for a comfortable, hygienic stay. Our non-air-conditioned room was awful. It smelled really bad, was so stuffy we could hardly breathe, and the bed sheets smelled horrible and still had human hair on them. We doubted they’d been properly washed. The bathroom was also in a terrible state and not cleaned properly. Customer service was disappointing too. We called several times to book directly three weeks ahead and got no response, so we had to use bookings.com. It felt as if local visitors weren’t cared about and were treated differently from foreigners. We raised several issues with the staff, and they did manage to help us, which was good.

Right on the beach, with tropical nature sounds all around and very few people passing because it’s farther down the main road. A lovely spot for quiet, relaxing days. The food was great, and the staff were welcoming and always ready to help. Philipe is a dear friend with the kindest heart. I definitely recommend staying here and hope to be back soon.

We liked it enough to add a second night to what was meant to be a one-night stay. It’s right on the beach, yet close to the main road and all its shops. The breakfast was nice and the staff kind. A good place to relax and enjoy the sea.

This was the best accommodation we had in Sri Lanka. It’s right on the beach, peaceful, and the place was very nice and clean. The construction mentioned in a recent post has finished, and now everything feels new and lovely. The staff were friendly and tried to help as much as they could. We didn’t try the kitchen, so can’t comment on that. The place is a little way from the village bustle. We saw that as a plus, though some may feel differently. There were a few mosquitoes, but not many.
