Sanmali Beach Hotel

We only stayed one day with the family, but slept really well. It's a quiet place with a nice sea view, a wonderful pool, clean rooms and bathroom, good linens and hot water. The service was simple and pleasant, and the Sri Lankan breakfast was very tasty. There's also a kitchen with a varied menu until 9:30 pm. You can't go straight onto a sandy beach from the front, but there's another beach about 50 m around the corner. A nice option for an average budget if you want somewhere calm with facilities for kids.

The location is the big thing here. The rolling beach and white sand were beautiful, and I had almost all of it to myself. Rooms have balconies facing that view, and there's a lovely pool, though I didn't use it. I had to mark the room down because my balcony door was broken and couldn't be fully closed; there was no way to fix it. I don't want to be too hard on a hotel in such a beautiful spot, but it may be moving toward corporate functions. While I was there, a large party took place and it didn't go smoothly. With views and a setting like this, the place could be among the best, but I think it would benefit from choosing a different direction for the future.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the food was delicious. With its beautiful sea view and really relaxing atmosphere, this is a great place for a peaceful getaway. Highly recommended. 🌊✨

We spent a couple of days at Sanmali in November 2024. The location is great, with private beach access and a large pool that was generally clean. We did find some bugs in it, but staff cleaned them out after we pointed them out. The hotel itself was calm, with no disturbances, and we enjoyed the sunsets from the beach. Staff were helpful and the service was amazing. Mr. Vidyarathna, the GM, spoke with us himself and sorted out a few problems. The food was good and the portions huge. After the generous breakfast and lunch, we had to order something light for dinner on our last night. For the price, the food was a great deal. Our room was spacious, with a balcony facing the sea. It was generally clean, though we noticed a few cobwebs and ants high on the walls; they didn't bother us. The bathroom was usable but not very clean. The bed was somewhat comfortable, and the AC worked. There was also a 32 inch TV with some local channels. For the price, the rooms were fine, though overall I'd give them four stars. The stray cats hanging around the dining area were our main concern, as they raised questions for us about health and cleanliness. Hopefully management will address this so guests aren't bothered by them. I enjoyed the stay and think we'll return. The hotel is recommended.
