Poppies Mirissa Hotel

The location was good, and everything else seemed fine during the four days I stayed. The problem was that reception offered me a discount if I cancelled my booking. I cancelled, but they never gave me the discount. That was really upsetting.

We had three senior citizens and a child with us, but the hotel only provided thin sheets instead of blankets. After we insisted, they gave us another sheet, then took it back the next day. The bed we had to sleep on on day three is in the attached picture. Our rooms weren't cleaned for three days, even though this is a beach destination. The vegetarian breakfast was very basic. At checkout, they didn't provide breakfast or help with our luggage. The staff were extremely rude and cruel. They told us they didn't care if we died without a blanket, but wouldn't give us an extra sheet because we refused to pay extra for it. I wouldn't stay here again, even for free.

We booked three nights and left after two. The hotel felt old and neglected, nothing like the photos, and we couldn't face another night. Our room seemed to be falling apart: the shower and taps were partly broken, with rust coming out of the shower tap. The mattress was ancient, with two deep holes, and I could feel every spring. Nothing seemed clean, from the bedding and mosquito net to the bathroom and windows. The AC was either on or off, and made a huge racket. We didn't feel listened to, got no refund, and it seemed like they didn't care at all. Avoid this place.

The staff were rude and abusive, and we had a terrible three-night stay. There was water all over the room floor, and they wouldn't provide bedsheets or blankets. They also told us breakfast was over at 8:30pm and wouldn't serve it. They tried to get us to cancel our Booking.com reservation, saying they'd give us a discount. The lady manager seemed like the biggest con woman I've ever seen. This was the worst place in Mirissa. Please don't stay here.
