Anicia Beach House

The location is nice and right on the beachfront. The road is narrow, though, so you can’t park or get there by vehicle. The place was okay.

The rooms were boiling hot, even with the fan on full blast, and the internet was useless. It showed full signal, but I couldn’t even open a basic email. They demanded payment as soon as I walked onto the property 😆 Pathetic. How about letting me see whether the night was worth it first? Pay cheap, get cheap, period!

Simple accommodation, clean, with a friendly housewife. We had breakfast. It was okay for me, though maybe not enough for somebody else.

By morning I’d had enough of the place. The beach was extremely dirty, the setting felt unpleasant rather than serene, and the staff came across as unprofessional and aggressive. At checkout around 10 AM, they said I owed another 2,000 rupees. When I asked to speak with the owner, I was told the owner was very unpleasant, along with other derogatory remarks. In the end, they charged me 800 rupees extra. I’d arrived late from Colombo with a booking for a sea-view room. The hotel is directly opposite the beach, but a village road runs in front, with constant foot traffic through this fishing village. Local residents often sit along the road, which made privacy difficult. If I opened the window or moved the curtain, people could see in and would try to talk to me through the window. The windows couldn’t really be opened, and even slightly ajar they let in no fresh air. It was extremely hot, and the ceiling fan didn’t help enough. Within five minutes of entering, I was told I had to decide right then if I wanted to add another night. I agreed because the rate was a little lower. Two hours later, they said someone else had booked the room through Booking.com and I’d have to move. I decided to sleep and tell them at checkout in the morning.
