Bee Nest Bed & Breakfast

I stayed at Bee nest for about 13 days and had a very pleasant time. The rooms were neat, the AC worked well, and breakfast was great. It’s close to the beach and main street, with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. The place is clean, calm, and affordable. The owner, Buddhi, and his wife were so kind and helpful. My friend and I had a great trip to Shrilanka with Buddhi, who also works as a tourist guide. I’d definitely recommend staying here, whether for a short visit or a longer one.

We ended up at Bee Nest after the guest house we’d booked was overbooked. The owner picked us up from there, which was a real help. We liked the welcoming, homestay feel, and our room was clean and comfortable. There’s a shared sitting area with a balcony, which was useful while we worked and wanted to use a laptop outside the room. The owner also runs a tour agency and can take guests around the island, though we didn’t have time to go on a tour. There’s a beach about a five-minute walk away via a shortcut behind an old Christian cemetery. The walk is okay, but not very pleasant. Sadly, the beach was dirty, and compared with Sri Lanka’s south coast, the sand and water weren’t great. Maybe it’s because of the many fishermen, but the sea was full of floating dried fish heads. The sunset, though, is spectacular.

Bee Nest is a family-run B&B, and the owner and family made us feel very welcome. Our short stay was a pleasure. Everything was very clean, the bathroom was new with a great shower and warm water, and the air conditioner worked well. There’s a mosquito net too.

The family who run Bees Nest were lovely, and both dinner, a real feast, and breakfast were fabulous. It was the cleanest place we’d stayed in during a month travelling around Sri Lanka, and one of the cheapest too. We liked it so much we wished we could have stayed longer. Great for a few days or for a stop before or after a flight.
