Regenta Arie Lagoon Negombo Hotel

The rooms were spacious, clean, and peaceful, and the staff, including the restaurant team, were very friendly and helpful. The hotel sits between the lagoon and the beach, which is an ideal setting for a relaxing break. Food was the letdown. Breakfast and dinner both disappointed us, with very little choice and most dishes lacking flavor for our taste. Many buffet items were gone well before it ended and weren’t replenished. Maybe the menu was aimed more at foreign guests, but it didn’t suit us. I’d choose room only, since it’s easy to find a good meal around Negombo. There weren’t any wedding receptions during our visits, but given the hotel’s layout, I imagine a wedding could make for a troublesome stay.

Staff were nice, and the location is good, but the rooms felt average and there were bugs all around. The AC in our room didn’t work properly, and the restaurant had flies both inside and out, with no AC or fans. It’s nowhere near a 4 star hotel as it is. It could be a great place with a full facelift. Also, the tuk tuks waiting out front overcharge. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The place was peaceful, beautiful, and clearly well looked after. We ate really well, and the staff were attentive and very friendly. The Front Office Manager gave us excellent help and hospitality throughout our stay. We had a wonderful time at Arie Lagoon, and I’d highly recommend it for a relaxing, memorable break.

The hotel itself was generally satisfactory, but the service could use improvement. Staff would benefit from more training in professional guest handling and engagement. My wife and I chose it for a holiday getaway on a friend’s recommendation, and our expectations may have been higher than average, but the stay still felt underwhelming. Our first impression was especially poor. On the way to the room, we passed a stairwell that smelled strongly of smoke. As non-smokers, we found it unpleasant. I raised it with the butler carrying our luggage, yet it colored the start of our stay. I realize the hotel may not have been entirely responsible, but it affected how we viewed the experience.
